A Prayer for a Loud Winter’s Night
Gracebased |
Lord of Peace,
I confess that sometimes I wish
my nights were quieter and calmer.
I long to look out my window and watch
the sun set slowly,
prayerfully pondering
the day’s events.
Yet…my windows are smudged
with fingerprints,
my living room is a yard sale
of forgotten toys and dust bunnies,
and our home is anything
but quiet.
So remind me of the gifts
hidden in the sounds of whining children:
the honor of responsibly
training them in patience and gratitude.
Retrain my ears to hear
the songs of love and belonging
humming underneath
the noise of a full house.
One day I will miss this chaos…
One day the quiet will feel too quiet…
I know.
So for now I give my thanks.
I lean deeply into the gifts
of a loud winter’s night.
Amen.
