A Prayer for Laughter

Gracebased |

God of Joy,

As another busy week begins,
we pause to give thanks
for the gift of laughter—

life’s great ice breaker,
tension reliever,
group connector,
family bonder,
play at its best.

To play is to trust
that you are in control.
To laugh is to defy despair.

So we ask, Lord,
for a lightness of heart,
taking cues from our smallest children
whose unfettered laughter
is infectiously healing.

Thank you for giving us this gift—
a small release valve
built into our bodies;
the same in every language,
in every age.

From a three-month-old’s first giggles,
to inside jokes with our adult children,
may the sound of laughter
bring us glimpses of your Kingdom.

Amen
