A prayer for library cards and helping my family find true imagination
Gracebased |

Good Father,
In seasons like these,
When the kids are out of school
And free time is in abundance–
Give me wisdom,
Give me a vision
Of what it means,
To care for, cultivate, and even protect
Their growing imaginations.
When it would be so easy
To just sit them in front of a screen.
Guide my imagination
In pointing them to good things, fun things, things that are more real—
May they rediscover the joy of make-believe
As they create pillow forts in the living room.
May they enter through wardrobes
Encountering faraway lands in the printed word
Their library card as their passport.
May they get grassy knees
And sun-kissed faces,
Afternoons spent exploring on their bikes
As they embrace adventure over and over.
Above all
May they drink in
This sweet and precious season called childhood,
Your good gift to them–
That precious season of play and discovery and wonder,
In a world cared for by your good hand.
Amen.
