Give me your perspective, Lord,
when my teenager suddenly opens up
at 11pm on a weeknight…
May I lean in and listen well,
prioritizing meaningful relationships
over a comfortable retreat.
Give me your perspective, Lord,
when my words of hard-won wisdom
are brushed off or ignored.
May I rest in humility and remember:
I have been just as flippant,
with my own elders and
countless times Lord, with You.
May I enjoy my children and
who they are becoming,
even when I don’t fully understand
their world or their choices.
Remind me of the liberation and limits of youth,
and how much we all long to be seen
and loved, above all else.
Give me your perspective, Lord,
to let them go…to let them learn,
to let them find You faithful.
And may I meet them with an embrace of love
as often as I have the chance.
Amen.
