Lord of Light,
I see you in the glowing decorations,
the children’s anticipation,
the memories adorning our Christmas tree.
You have always been with us.
The evidence is somehow … more evident
this time of year.
Thank you for this season of longing—
a revealing of desires underneath our desires
if we have eyes to see and ears to hear.
May every moment of joy be a reminder
of your faithful presence,
and may every moment of sorrow point
our hearts to the hope of your coming Kingdom—
your promise that one day all things
really will be made right.
I pray for my family to experience
the wonder of Advent in new ways this year.
Open our hands to your eternal treasure,
more valuable than any wrapped box
or stocking full of trinkets.
Re-align our hearts toward true peace,
the kind that restores and brings wholeness—
so much deeper than temporary calm.
Let us honor you this month with our
celebrations and gatherings,
our quiet nights and our busy schedules,
our rote traditions and our
unexpected moments of delight.
We love you, Jesus.
May our love grow
deeper in the coming weeks.
